Tuition with a twist...
As all of our current clients/parents are aware, our children love coming to Lighthouse Academy and very much enjoy our learning through play approach.
This week, we will be creating lots of opportunities for working on both Maths and English based targets through many Easter/Spring themed activities. We will not be breaking these activities down into days, but will just be going with the children and what activities they would like to do. This will also be weather dependent, so if it is nice weather, we will be aiming to do lots of our learning outdoors. If the weather is not on our side, we will be enjoying our learning in our lovely little classroom and in the large studio spaces upstairs.
Children will be supported each morning to create some smart targets that can be achieved throughout the day or afternoon at Lighthouse Academy. Children will choose from a range of engaging solo and group activities where they can work on these targets with the support of myself (Kirsty- Teacher) and Claire, our wonderful teaching assistant.
Some of the activities we would like to do...
Easter arts and crafts- working on 2D and 3D shapes for Maths, handwriting/presentation/fine motor skills.
Easter egg hunts with a variety of clues based on English and Maths targets. Using Ipads to scan barcodes across the forest, leading to new areas and new clues. Coordinates and map reading.
Creating our own Easter egg hunts by creating scaled down maps of the outdoor areas around the gym- x marks the spot!
Outdoor physical activities such as Parachute games, obstacle cources, group/team games. We can incorperate lots of Maths and English targets within these games- e.g. mental maths and work on grammar, word class and oral sentence structure.
Easter baking- no bake bakes such as rice crispy/cornflake cakes. Measuring, capacity and ratio. Reading and writing instructions.
Easter themed writing- acrostic poetry, Easter stories, 'The Mystery of the Missing Egg' theme for story writing this week.
Group and team games- working on social skills and interaction with peers. Again, many opportunities to work on personal English/Maths based targets.
As well as much, much more! As always, we are always guided by our children, asking what they are interested in doing, and helping with ideas as to how they can work on their own personal targets through play.
Half and Full days availiable! I hope to see many of our lovely superstars over Easter. The Easter holidays at Lighthouse Academy are lots of fun, but it also gives us much more time to support our children to develop their knowledge and skills ready for going back to school.
