Understanding Phonics

This course is a full introduction to the wonderful world of phonics for children starting in Reception 2025.

This course will focus on how to develop early reading and writing skills using the basic letter sounds of the alphabet.

This course is suitable for parents/carers of children aged 3-5.

A great course for parents who are homeschooling. Equally beneficial for parents supporting children’s homework from school.

The second course- Reception- Early Reading and Writing- Part 2, will focus on the first sounds children begin to learn following the alphabet. It will give you the knowledge to teach graphemes such as ‘ay’ ‘ee’ ‘igh’ ‘oa’ and ‘oo’ for your child to begin to decode and segment more words. The Reception/Early Years Curriculum (EYFS) expects children to use and apply 10 graphemes with confidence in addition to the alphabet. This course will focus on how to teach this to your child effectively.

Phonics is a complex system of sounds and it is easy to cause misconceptions when supporting children. These phonics courses will help you navigate some of the common problems associated with parent help, and hopefully will put you on the right track for teaching phonics effectively at home. 1:1 support from parents makes a significant difference, especially when it comes to daily reading.
